Why I'm Excited for the Future of Church History: Part 2.

Over a year and a half ago I wrote a little post about Why I'm excited for the Future of Church History.

And if I was in October of 2013, I am even more so today.

While the world is worrying about whether or not women should be preaching from a pulpit or not, in a living room in central Illinois are women who have been "stunned by Jesus" and what's been done for them and through them by the power of the cross, who are saying "I want younger women to be blown away by who God is and experience His power to change their lives, because I've tasted and I've seen."

Around the internet there are those who give women's ministry a bad rap for hosting teas and crocheting doilies and things. But today I was among women who believe they are equipped by Scripture to minister (2 Timothy 3:16-17) and know and are convinced teaching younger women to love God and to love people (Matthew 28:19-20; Titus 2:3-5) is their purpose.

Today I was reminded that this work - this discipling, teaching, counseling, helping - is so much bigger than me and my kingdom. Through Jesus and His Church I'm a part of something much bigger, far greater than I could ever hope. It's all His doing (Ephesians 2:8-10).

Often I lose sight of the what's most important - to proclaim Christ and the power of His resurrection. To present Jesus as better and more beautiful than any weight or any sin this wicked world offers.

But today, sitting among women who radiate what the Lord had done for them, I caught a glimpse of where women of the Church, my church could be in five, in ten, in twenty years.

And like Paul and Epaphras pray (Colossians 1:28-29; 4:12), I want to too, that these women that we're discipling, teaching, counseling, helping will be presented mature at the day of Christ Jesus.

That's the power of the gospel. That's the goal.
