I clearly need Jesus.

"I just got really frustrated at the Sonic drive thru. I clearly need Jesus. But who doesn't understand what a Diet Green Tea with Mint, easy ice is?"

That was a text I received a day or two ago from my best friend.
It was a good reminder that "I clearly need Jesus" too.

Because yesterday I got really angry because someone took my. MY. parking spot at the office. Doesn't everyone know I own the parking lot?

I hate my sin.
And the truth is, as Jerry Bridges says in his forward to The Good News We Almost Forgot by Kevin DeYoung, "Strange as it may seem, Christians need the gospel as much as unbelievers do...We need the gospel to keep us from lapsing into a performance mind-set in our day-to-day relationship with God. We need the gospel to remind us that we are still practicing sinners whose only hope for both eternal life and today's blessings from God are 'Jesus' blood and righteousness.'"

But the good news is, I hate my sin more and more because of the Holy Spirit working in me to convict and correct and to conform me into the image of God's Son. To put the broken pieces of the mirror back together so that I may more accurately reflect the goodness and faithfulness of the infinite, almighty, sovereign God who loves me and who gave His Son for me.

The hope of the gospel is that Jesus is my "only hope for both eternal life and today's blessing."

Oh man, I am thankful that I can see (some of) my sin, so that I can truly taste what it's like to "eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness."  (Galatians 5:5)
